Pacers snap losing skid with win at home against London

Sarnia, ON - The Sarnia Pacers have snapped a small losing skid with a 11-7 victory over the London Blue Devils in the second game of a home-and-home in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse.

 

In the first period, London put the first score on the board after Justin Matthews made numerous saves, with Mike McKengney making it 1-0. Kyle Ferguson would tie the game for the Pacers with his goal, but ten seconds later Matt Muszak would give London the go ahead goal. Sarnia though would reply as Ben Tamming would score just over a minute after to make tie it again at 3-3.

 

Sarnia would take the lead on a pair of first of the season goals, as Ryan Charteris and Brandan Burr each scored to give the Pacers a 4-2 lead. But eight seconds after Burr's goal, Wati Felician would make it a one goal game, scoring on Matthews to make it 4-3 after the first.

 

In the second, Sarnia would increase their lead back to two as Dan Charlton scored on a powerplay to make it a 5-3 game. But London would respond and tie the game back up, as Felician and Sean Frankland would score for London, makng it a 5-5 game.

 

But London would not score for the rest of the period, as the Pacers would build a lead in the second, with Burr getting his second of the game, followed by Kevin Conroy scoring two goals, and Charlton scoring his second of the period. Dan Gawne would add Sarnia's sixth of the period to give the Pacers a 10-5 lead heading into the third.

 

On the powerplay at the start of the period, Conroy would get his hat-trick goal to put the Pacers up by six. London's Matt Muszak would respond with his second of the game, but London would be held without a goal for thirteen minutes, as Jordan Bennett would get London's final goal of the game, but 11-7 is as close the Blue Devils would come, as the Pacers earn their fifth victory of the season.

 

Justin Matthews made 38 saves in the game on 45 shots. With the victory, Sarnia is now two points back of London for the eighth and final playoff spot.

 

Sarnia travels to Wallaceburg on Wednesday, June 15th, and to Niagara on Saturday, June 18th before returning him for the final game of the season on Sunday, June 19th against Welland.
