The
start to the 2011 Sarnia Men’s Industrial Soccer
league has begun with ANJ Industrial winning this
years John Carlton Memorial Cup.
ANJ
opened the tournament with a hard-fought 3-1 victory
over Esso. The closely contested match saw a back
and forth afar with ANJ pulling away late.
They
next played an exciting game against a re-vamped
Olympic FC. The game was a defensive battle with the
Olympic opening the scoring. The Goaltending battle
between Olympics, Jimi Brodimus and ANJ’s Rob Maola
intensified as the game would be decided on penalty
kicks after Jeff DaSilva scored a beauty from a free
kick tying the game 1-1. ANJ eventually won the
penalties, 5-4.
The
finals were an exiting finals pitting ANJ against
last years champs Paton Controls. Paton opened the
scoring on a beautiful free kick goal by Scott
McDonald. ANJ responded by two clutch strikes from
John Sottosanti. Andrew Avellino added a third goal
as ANJ is was presented with the 2011 John Carlton
Memorial trophy.
Regular
season league play began June 6th.
