Petrolia, ON - The LCCVI Lancers are the 2011 LSSAA Boys Baseball Champions, after defeating the SCITS Blue Bombers 15-5 in the championship game Tuesday afternoon.

Matt Glowa got the game started for the Bombers with a first pitch single to right field, followed by a stolen base to put him on second. Glowa would advance to third on a fielders choice, but Lancer starting pitcher Alex McLean struck out the next two batters, leaving Glowa stranded on third.

In the Lancers half of the first, Justin Freer started the inning with a single to centre, and moved on to second on a wild throw. SCITS starting pitcher Drew Langois would strikeout the next batter, but a single by Warren Boersma would put runners on the corner for Jace Dupuis who hit a pop up that dropped into the short outfield, scoring Freer from third and giving the Lancers a 1-0 lead.

With two still on base, Travis Helps would get a hold of a pitch and send it deep right field, scoring both runs, while circling the bases himself, managing to make it home after the throw to third was high, giving the Lancers a 4-0 lead. After another single and steal by the Lancers, Chris Godwin would hit an RBI single, followed by McLean hitting a single that would score two more runners, giving LCCVI a 7-0 lead after the first inning.

McLean would pitch a gem for the Lancers, striking out the side in the next two innings and two more in the fourth, for eight strikeouts through four innings. McLean was just deadly with the bat, as the Lancers would load the bases in the bottom of the 4th inning, and McLean would hit a deep ball to right, scoring all three runs and legging out a triple for a 11-0 Lancer lead.

In the top of the 5th, the Lancers had the chance to end the game by mercy rule of 10 runs. Travis Helps took over pitching. SCITS though would begin to mount a comeback. With two down already in the inning and two on base, Glowa would hit a triple to centre, scoring both runs to get the Bombers on the board 11-2.

The next batter Kyle Scott would single, as would the next two Bombers to load the bases for Alex Machon who would double down the right field line, emptying the bases, and cutting the Lancer lead to 11-5.

But in the Lancers half of the inning, the Bombers would have control problems, as two pass balls would score two runs, bringing the lead back to 13-5. Chris Godwin would hit a single to cash in another run, as the Lancers lead 14-5 at the end of the 5th.

In the top of the 6, the Bombers would find themselves with runners in scoring position, after a single and walk put runners on base. But an inning ending double play would give the Lancers a chance to end the game in the bottom of the inning with a single run.

McLean would start the inning with a single up the middle, and would move on to second base. He would steal third to get himself into scoring position. On the next pitch, the ball would be thrown into the dirt and away from the catcher, allowing McLean to come home to make it a 15-5 ball game, ending it in the bottom of the 6th.
