Rapids swimmers make big splash at Western Region Sting Meet

Fourteen swimmers from the Sarnia Y Rapids Swim Team finished first in at least one of their races, in a Western Region Sting Swim Meet in late May.

In the 9-and-under group, Samantha Bedard, 9, finished 1st in the 50M butterfly, 200M freestyle and 100M Individual Medley (IM), and 2nd in the 50M freestyle. Nadine Osmon, also 9, earned two 1st-place ribbons in the 50M freestyle and 50M breaststroke, and 2nd place in the 50M butterfly, 200M freestyle and 100M IM. Fellow 9-year-old Lucas Piazza came 1st in the 100M IM, 2nd in the 100M backstroke, 50M breaststroke and 50M backstroke, and 3rd in the 50M freestyle.

Dylan Cloud, 10, finished 1st in the 50M breaststroke, 2nd in the 50M butterfly and 50M backstroke and 3rd in the 50M freestyle. Thomas Cardinal, also 10, placed 1st in the 100M backstroke, 50M backstroke and 100M freestyle, and 2nd in the 50M freestyle. His brother, Eric, 12, came 1st in the 50M freestyle, 10M backstroke and 50M breaststroke.

Hannah Lacey, 11, earned her 1st-place ribbons in the 50M butterfly, 50M breaststroke and 100M IM, as well as a 2nd-place in the 200M freestyle. Magaidh Crossland, 12, finished 1st in the 50M breaststroke, and added 2nd in the 50M butterfly, 3rd in the 50M freestyle, 4th in the 100M IM and 6th in the 100M breaststroke. Aynsley Persad, 12, placed 1st in the 50M freestyle, 100M butterfly and 50m backstroke. She came 2nd in the 100M IM and 3rd in the 100M breaststroke.

Among thirteen-year-olds, Nadia Cartwright finished 1st in the 50M butterfly, 200M breaststroke and 100M IM, and 4th in the 200M IM. Dariel Gomez placed 1st in the 50M butterfly, 100M breaststroke, 50M freestyle and 50M breaststroke, and 2nd in the 100M freestyle. Emily Houle came 1st in the 400M IM, 50M backstroke, 100M freestyle and 800M freestyle, and finished 2nd in the 100M breaststroke. Madison McKinlay came 1st in the 50M freestyle and 50M breaststroke, 2nd in the 50M backstroke and 100M IM and 4th in the 200M breaststroke.

Liam Young, 14, finished 1st in the 100M IM and 800M freestyle, 2nd in the 50M butterfly and 200M IM, and 4th in the 50M freestyle.

Several of their teammates also earned ribbons: Ally Core, 10, earned a 2nd, two 3rd and two 4th-place ribbons; Erin Lacey, 8, finished 5th in two races; Samantha Lefebvre, 11, placed 2nd in two races, 3rd in one and 4th in her other two events; Hayley Robertson finished 2nd in two events and 3rd in her three other races; Sophie Stasyna, 14, came 2nd in 4 events; and Nes Tulang, 9, earned one 2nd place and three 3rd-place ribbons.

The Sarnia Y Rapids 1 team has completed its season, and will welcome both returning swimmers and new members in September.
