The Sarnia Braves completed a three-game sweep of
the Dresden Juniors with a 6-0 road win over the
weekend. The win moves the Braves to 13-1 on the
season in WCBL action.
Lefty Lance Hart picked up his first win of the
season with a complete game, four hit, shut out. He
had eight strikeouts on the day and keeps his ERA at
zero.
The Braves hit the board in the second inning as
Doug Amlin reached base and advanced to second on a
passed ball. First baseman Tyler Young then ripped
and RBI single to left field for the early 1-0 lead.
Sarnia would add another run in the third inning as
James Grant would walk and Mason McCarthy would
crush a double to the wall scoring Grant for the 2-0
lead.
McCarthy would then come in to score in the sixth
inning for a 3-0 advantage for the visitors.
McCarthy would reach on a fielder’s choice and
advance to third base on a Chris Meredith single.
Meredith would then take off stealing for second and
McCarthy would score on the resulting throw.
“It felt really nice to add the extra run in the
sixth inning,” said coach Scott Finnie. “But, our
job wasn’t done. We wanted to make sure Dresden was
down and out before their last at bats in this game.
They played us tough in Sarnia a few weeks ago, and
in baseball you always have to worry about not
having a large enough lead. Stranger things have
happened than giving up a three-run lead last in a
ball game.”
Sarnia would take advantage of their last hacks to
put three runs up on the board and put the game
away. Tyler Young, Wade Babula and Randy Thingstad
would all cross home plate with Grant and
McCarthy picking up the RBIs.
Sarnia sees action against Forest at Errol Russell
on Tuesday at 7:30pm before heading to Petrolia for
a Wednesday night road game. The Braves will be
taking part in Day 2 of the Thames Valley Crossover
Tournament on Saturday in Courtright.
