The Sarnia Braves moved
to 19-2 in WCBL action with a 7-0 victory over the
Courtright Cardinals.
Braves starting pitcher Jeff Jones moved his record
to 5-0 on the year by tossing the complete game
shutout. He now sports a 0.35 ERA on the season.
Sarnia would score single runs in both the first and
third innings. In the first, Wade Babula would score
on a Rory Fell RBI single. In the third, James Grant
would come into count on a Scott Finnie hit.
The Braves would add two more in the fourth off of
Courtright starter Curtis McCormick. Randy Thingstad,
Tyler Young and Greg Kemble would all single with
none out in the inning. McCormick would come back
and record two quick outs before Grant knocked a
two-run double to left field.
Three insurance runs would cross the plate in the
final three innings of the game for Sarnia with
Finnie, Jamie Barron, and Kemble crossing home
plate.
Sarnia produced eleven hits and worked five walks.
“It was nice to get back to league play after a long
weekend tournament out of town,” said coach Brad
Wright. “Jeff looked great again and our offence
looks to be getting into a good spot. We have pretty
well put the pieces of the puzzle together when it
comes to a static lineup, so it should be a strong
August ahead of us.”
The Braves play host to the Forest Dragons on
Wednesday, August 3rd at Errol Russell park in
Sarnia. Game time is 7:30pm.
