Sarnia,
On – The Sarnia Sturgeon Bantams and Junior Varsity
teams finished their regular season Sunday after at
Norm Perry, with the Bantam's taking a 39-22 victory
over the Wentworth Panthers, and the Junior
Varsity's falling
21-12
to the Twin City Predators.
In the
Bantam game, Sarnia racked up a 33 point lead before
the Panthers could score, with all their points
coming in the fourth quarter.
Yenel
Olivero set up the first touchdown for the Sturgeon
with a 60 yard rush, putting Sarnia inside the
Panthers 10 yard line. Nick Paquette would cap off
the drive with a fullback rush up the middle,
putting Sarnia up 7-0 after the first quarter.
Paquette
would score his second touchdown of the game with
another goal line rush, punching it in as Wentworth
tried to make the tackle.
Both
teams spent the half in position to score, but
turnovers cost each team points, stopping drives
inside the 10 yard line, as both Sarnia and
Wentworth tossed interceptions.
With
Sarnia up 14-0 after the first half, Sarnia would
again threaten to score on a goal line stand.
Quarterback Blake Maxfield would run on a QB keeper
from the three yard line and put Sarnia up 20-0.
Maxfield would also help on defence, as he would
strip the ball from Wentworth's running back and
head back downfield to set up another Sarnia score.
Olivero on the first play after the take away would
run 35 yards and put Sarnia up 27-0.

Olivero
would find the endzone one more time in the quarter,
running outside and cutting back in once he found a
hole, rushing 25 yards for the touchdown and the
33-0 Sarnia lead after three.
In the
fourth quarter, Wentworth would finally find the
endzone, as Sam Berube would catch a quarterback
throw and head to the endzone to get the Panthers on
the board. Berube would be on the receiving end of
another Panther throwing touchdown, as Wentworth
cuts the Sarnia lead to 33-14.
But
Sarnia would stop the scoring, as Maxfield would
again keep on a QB sneak, and find the endzone
again. Wentworth would find the endzone one last
time as Berube would get his third receiving
touchdown of the game. Sarnia would walk away with
the victory 39-22.

In the
Junior Varsity game Sarnia would get a quick start
of their first drive, as quarterback Josh Elsley
would keep on a run and find the endzone. The extra
point kick was wide and Sarnia would lead 6-0. Marco
Parete would come up with two sacks to stop Twin
City's first rush, but it wouldn't be long till the
Predators got on the board. Tre Nicholson would
break out for a 25 yard run, and their extra point
would be good, giving them a 7-6 lead.
In the
second quarter Nicholson would bust through again
for another large gain to get Twin City inside the
20 yard line. But Ramon Bustillo would come up with
the interception in the endzone to give Sarnia the
ball back. But like before, the Predators would use
the big run to get in scoring position, and this
time Nicholson would bust through on an 18 yard run
for the touchdown, giving Twin City a 14-6 lead.
In the
second half, Twin City would extend their lead, as
Twin City quarterback Addie Cober
would
keep and find his way into the endzone to put the
Predators up 21-6.
Sarnia
would try to get back onto the board, moving down
field on a reverse run of 30 yards to set up a goal
line stand. But after four runs on the ground,
Sarnia was held outside the endzone and turned the
ball back over.
Sarnia
in the fourth would get a chance at another 4th and
goal situation, and this time would find the
endzone, as Mitchell Smiley would fight his way in,
putting Sarnia back 21-12.
But
before the end of the game Nicholson would find the
endzone one more time as the Predators keep the ball
on the ground and kill the clock, capping off the
game with a touchdown and a 28-12 victory.
