Last
evening, the Alvinston Indians traveled to Glanworth
for a contest with the Glanworth Gators. They were
looking to get back on the winning side of the
ledger after a tough 3-2 loss to Springfield last
evening. The game remained scoreless through three
innings, before Alvinston finally got busy in the
fourth inning, scoring two runs. Brad Young reached
base via an error, advanced to second on a sac bunt
by Chris Drew, and then Young scored on an RBI
single by Jeff Ingram, making it 1-0. Chris Sheppard
then promptly deposited a one out triple over the
left fielder to score Ingram fro a 2-0 lead.
However, Glanworth made it close again, as they
added a run of their own in the fourth inning,
making it 2-1. In the fifth, the Indians added to
their lead, when Andy Triest singled with one out to
get the offence going, and then he scored on an RBI
double by Joe Triest. Triest was then sacrificed to
third by Young, and then scored on an RBI double by
Chris Drew. Ingram then followed and doubled home
Drew, as the Indians took control, with a 5-1 lead.
The Indians added one more run in the sixth inning,
when Eric Hyatt reached base via an error, advanced
to second on a pass ball, and then scored on an RBI
single by A. Triest.
Doug Charlton started on the mound for Alvinston,
allowing 1 earned run in 4 innings of work, while
striking out 5, and allowing 4 singles. Charlton
earned the win. Young came in in relief tossing
three innings, allowing 1 hit, and striking out 2,
and securing the win for Alvinston. Andy Triest was
3/3 for Alvinston, while Ingram was 2/4 to lead the
Alvinston offence. The final score was Alvinston 6,
Glanworth 1.
The Indians are now 15-4 on the season in league
play. They travel to Frankenmuth this weekend, for
the Pete Schwab Memorial Fastpitch Tournament, a
tournament that the Indians have dominated, winning
the last three championships in this tournament, in
back to back to back fashion.
