The
Alvinston Indians traveled to Springfield last
evening, to play the Springfield Brewers in St.
Thomas & District Major Fastball League action.
The Indians scored first in the top of the first
inning, when Chapman walked, advanced to second on a
pass ball, and then scored on an RBI single by Jeff
Ingram. However, Springfield was quick to reply, as
Alvinston started off a little flat in the first
inning, and allowed two runs. Shaun Winship then hit
a solo homerun to make the score 3-1 for
Springfield. The Indiand answered in their half of
the fourth to make it close, when Chris Sheppard
singled, advanced to third when Eric Hyatt reached
base via an error, and then Sheppard scored, when
Hyatt was safe stealing second base on the throw.
The Indians were however not capable of tying the
game, as Springfield earned a 3-2 home victory over
Alvinston.
Jeff Lyons started on the mound for Alvinston, and
suffered the loss, tossing 3 innings, allowing 5
hits with 3 walks, while striking out 5, and
allowing 2 earned runs. Brad Young came in in relief
for the Indians, pitching 3 innings of shutout ball,
allowing no hits while striking out 5. Shaun Winship
was solid on the mound for Springfield to keep the
Indians offence in check. Chris Sheppard was 3/3 for
Alvinston, with 3 singles.
