sarniasports.com july 12th, 2011

The Alvinston Indians traveled to Springfield last evening, to play the Springfield Brewers in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League action.

The Indians scored first in the top of the first inning, when Chapman walked, advanced to second on a pass ball, and then scored on an RBI single by Jeff Ingram. However, Springfield was quick to reply, as Alvinston started off a little flat in the first inning, and allowed two runs. Shaun Winship then hit a solo homerun to make the score 3-1 for Springfield. The Indiand answered in their half of the fourth to make it close, when Chris Sheppard singled, advanced to third when Eric Hyatt reached base via an error, and then Sheppard scored, when Hyatt was safe stealing second base on the throw. The Indians were however not capable of tying the game, as Springfield earned a 3-2 home victory over Alvinston.

Jeff Lyons started on the mound for Alvinston, and suffered the loss, tossing 3 innings, allowing 5 hits with 3 walks, while striking out 5, and allowing 2 earned runs. Brad Young came in in relief for the Indians, pitching 3 innings of shutout ball, allowing no hits while striking out 5. Shaun Winship was solid on the mound for Springfield to keep the Indians offence in check. Chris Sheppard was 3/3 for Alvinston, with 3 singles.
