The
Alvinston Indians made short work on Sunday
afternoon, when they defeated the Springfield
Brewers 8-0 in five innings of ball, in St. Thomas &
District Major Fastball League action.
The Indians scored two runs in the first, when Joe
Triest walked to start the inning off. Jamie Shields
then followed with a single, and then Ryan Chapman
eventually drove both runners home for a 2-0
Alvinston lead. Alvinston went straight back to work
in the second inning, when Andy Triest led off with
a walk, stole second base and then scored on an RBI
single by Shields. The next batter Chris Sheppard
then came to the plate, and belted a two run
homerun, for a 5-0 Indians lead. In the fourth
inning, Alvinston struck again. A. Triest singled to
start things off, while J. Triest followed with a
walk. Jamie Shields then hit his third single of the
game to load the bases. And with the bases loaded,
Sheppard delivered again, this time with a 2 RBI
single, scoring both Triest's, while Shields also
scored via a defensive miscue. With an 8-0 lead,
that was enough for Indians starter Doug Charlton,
who pitched five scoreless innings, to earn the
shutout victory. He allowed two hits, while striking
out 8.
Alvinston now has a record of 14-3 in league play,
and they travel to Springfield on Tuesday, and then
to Glanworth on Wednesday night. Both games are on
the road, at 8:30pm and 8:00pm respectively.
