Petrolia,
ON – The Sarnia Braves won their 15th WCBL game of
the season with an 11-0 decision over the Petrolia
Raiders at Morrison Field.
The road win came on the back of a five-inning
no-hit performance from Wade Babula. The
right-hander struck out seven in the game which was
called after five complete innings. Babula is now
3-0 on the season.
“Wade has been our leadoff hitter and starting
shortstop all season long. But, we wanted to work
him into the pitching rotation as the season
progressed and it is paying off,” says coach Scott
Finnie. “Wade is really fresh for being at this
point in the campaign and making excellent pitches.
With about three weeks left until provincials, he is
right where we need him to be.”
Sarnia built a lead early on as Babula, and Nick
Baljeu worked their way on to start the game. James
Grant would hit an RBI single, as would Mason
McCarthy. Jeff Jones and Tyler Young would each pick
up an RBI later in the inning as the Braves led 4-0
after one.
The Braves would add two more in the second inning
with Baljeu leading things off with a triple. Grant
and McCarthy would both connect for RBI doubles to
push the lead to 6-0.
Jamie Barron would come into cash in the third
inning for a 7-0 visitor lead on a Baljeu hit up the
middle.
Babula would help put the game out of reach in the
fourth as he would rip a bases loaded triple into
the left field corner. Rory Fell, how had two hits
on the day, Anthony Shepherd and Barron would score.
Sarnia’s final run would count as Doug Amlin singled
home Babula for the 11-0 lead.
Sarnia is now 15-1 in Western Counties Baseball
League play. They will be representing the Western
Counties at this Saturday’s Thames Valley Crossover
tournament. Sarnia will face Mitchell at 10:00am and
the Forest City Barons at 3:00pm in Courtright. The
tournament final is set for 6:00pm.
