The
Sarnia Legionnaires will try to get back on track
Thursday night when they host the arch-rival
Strathroy Rockets.
Here's a preview of the contest:
WHERE
– Brock Street Barn, 7:10 p.m.
RECORDS
– The Legionnaires, who have lost two in a row, are
18-19-3. The Rocket are a splendid 26-8-4.
WHO'S HOT
Sarnia
– Jeff Schroeter has five points in his last four
games.
Strathroy
– Walter Easter has an astonishing 11 goals in his
last five games.
LAST OUTINGS
– Sarnia lost 6-4 in St. Marys on Sunday. Strathroy
dropped a 3-2 decision in Chatham on the same night.
HISTORY
– The Rockets have won three of four games played
between the two clubs this year, although two of
their victories were close. The Legionnaires won the
last time the squads met at the Sarnia Arena.
The
pair have been bitter rivals in recent years, at
least partly because each has defeated the other in
a crucial playoff round. In 2007 Strathroy won the
Western Jr. 'B' final in a seven-game series with
Sarnia. Two years later, the Legionnaires defeated
the Rockets in a semi-final series that also went
the full seven games.
SPECIAL TEAMS
– Strathroy has a powerplay that works 24 per cent
of the time. Its penalty killers are successful 83
per cent of the time. Sarnia, by way of contrast,
scores about once in every five times it has a man
advantage. Legionnaire penalty killers dodge the
bullet three quarters of the time.
SIGNIFICANCE
–
The Rockets are in a tight battle with the London
Nationals for first place in the Western Ontario
Hockey Conference. The Legionnaires are struggling
with Chatham and Leamington for sixth. They still
have an outside chance of taking fifth in the
nine-team loop. |
