Vikings hand Cyclones first loss of season

In one of the biggest games of the year in not only senior boys basketball, but LSSAA sports, the undefeated St. Christopher Cyclones took on the 6-1 Northern Vikings at Northern.

In an emotionally charged game with plenty of spectators in attendance, the Northern Vikings rallied back from an early deficit and handed the Cyclones their first loss of the season with an 72-66 victory.

St. Christopher's took an early lead, as E. McDonald lead the Cyclone with nine points as part of a 12-7 lead. Northern would begin to cut into that lead as T. Dawding added four points  to help bring the Vikings to with a bucket. But the Cyclones held onto the ball to run out the first period as M. Panicl adds a late basketball to make it 18-14.

In the second, the game got physical, with both teams ripping down rebounds, and playing a tough physical game. C. Winberg adds six points in the period, while Datoe adds 10 points for the Cyclones, as the Vikings still trail after the half 38-34.

The action remained fast paced as they teams came out in the second half. Winberg continues from where he lef off, adding four points to help give Northern a 41-40 lead. The teams would trade leads until Northern starting hitting from beyond the arch. With the score 45-43, Winberg dials in and hits a three pointer, only to follow it up seconds later with another long three ball. M. Girling would hit a three pointer, and Dawding would add one of his own, as the VIkings hit four in a row to open up a 14 points lead at the end of the third, 57-43.

In the fourth, J. Rocca would try and get his team back into the game, putting in 11 points early in the period. But both teams ran into foul trouble which results in any foul giving the other team two shots. St. Christopher's could not steal the ball on the inbounds and had to take fouls to save time. But the Viking shooters managed to hit their free throws and secure their victory, as hey hold off a late comeback and take the game 72-66.
