The Sarnia
Major Atom Sting picked up a huge win on the weekend
to remain in 1st place in their division
with only 3 regular season games remaining.
Sarnia
took on the West London Hawks at Germain Arena this
past Sunday in a battle between 1st and 2nd
place teams. After a scoreless 1st
period it would be London who would score the games
1st goal half way through the 2nd
period. The Sting would respond, however on a goal
by Jake Vince (Devin Devooght, Austin Coutts) less
than a minute later. From this point, Sarnia would
gradually take control of the game as Jake Vince
(Tristan Haagsma) would score again to give Sarnia a
2 – 1 lead. Brett Allardyce and Jake Vince (Devin
Devooght, Brett Allardyce) would add 3rd
period goals and the Sting would win by a final
score of 4 – 1. James Dunn was the winning goalie
in this game.
Sarnia
also took on the Port Huron Flags in an exhibition
game on Saturday and would lose this game by a final
score of 6 – 4. The Sting dominated the first half
of this game and were leading by a 3 – 0 margin in
the 2nd period when the wheels fell off.
The Sting would carry a 4 – 3 lead into the 3rd
period before giving up 2 3rd period
goals and another into the empty net to fall by a
final score of 6 – 4. Jack Smith led the offensive
attack in this game with 1 goal and 1 assist, Curtis
Marks, Austin Coutts and Matthew Torti added single
goals and Lucas Ross, Jake Vince, Devin Devooght,
Tristan Haagsma and Dawson Young all added single
assists.
