Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League announced that 2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect Nicklas Jensen of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 16.  Jensen scored three goals and four assists for seven points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-1.

Jensen’s week was highlighted by his first career five-point game Saturday in a big 6-5 comeback win against the Ottawa 67’s.  He scored the game-tying goal and added four assists as first star of the game as the Generals scored four unanswered goals in the third period to earn the win.  On Sunday he scored two goals as the game’s second star despite a 5-3 loss to the Sudbury Wolves.  He was held without a point on Friday in a 5-3 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs.

Jensen, a 17-year-old from Herning, Denmark, is playing in his first OHL season and is currently fifth in rookie scoring with 42 points in 35 games.  Jensen is ranked 20th by NHL Central Scouting and will compete with Team Cherry at the 2011 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game January 18-19 at Air Canada Centre.

The newest Windsor Spitfire Jake Carrick was also considered for the award after scoring three goals and five assists for eight points in three games.  Rookie forward Lino Martschini receives honourable mention after tallying seven points in three games with five goals and two assists.  In goal, Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs went 1-0-0-1 with a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 0.48 and save percentage of .986.
