Toronto,
ON – The Ontario Hockey League announced that 2011
NHL Entry Draft prospect Nicklas Jensen of the
Oshawa Generals is the OHL Player of the Week for
the week ending January 16. Jensen scored three
goals and four assists for seven points in three
games with a plus-minus rating of plus-1.
Jensen’s
week was highlighted by his first career five-point
game Saturday in a big 6-5 comeback win against the
Ottawa 67’s. He scored the game-tying goal and
added four assists as first star of the game as the
Generals scored four unanswered goals in the third
period to earn the win. On Sunday he scored two
goals as the game’s second star despite a 5-3 loss
to the Sudbury Wolves. He was held without a point
on Friday in a 5-3 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs.
Jensen, a
17-year-old from Herning, Denmark, is playing in his
first OHL season and is currently fifth in rookie
scoring with 42 points in 35 games. Jensen is
ranked 20th by NHL Central Scouting and
will compete with Team Cherry at the 2011 Home
Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game January 18-19 at
Air Canada Centre.
The newest
Windsor Spitfire Jake Carrick was also considered
for the award after scoring three goals and five
assists for eight points in three games. Rookie
forward Lino Martschini receives honourable mention
after tallying seven points in three games with five
goals and two assists. In goal, Mark Visentin of
the Niagara IceDogs went 1-0-0-1 with a shutout
victory posting a goals-against-average of 0.48 and
save percentage of .986.
