The Sarnia Lady Sting Midget AA team will be heading
to Provincials this year after a very close race in
playdowns.
Sarnia travelled to Chatham on Weds.evening for
their second meeting. The Sting had won their first
game, and Chatham was already out of Provincials
because of a pair of loses to Windsor previously.
The Outlaws scored first and were leading the Sting
1-0, but the very hot stick of Sierra Butler would
net the Sting not one, but two goals, to tie and
eventually win the game.
Fridays final game of playdowns came down to whoever
won between Windsor and Sarnia. The Wildcats had
home ice advantage. The game was very evenly matched
as play went back and forth several times with
neither team scoring. With only 3 minutes left a
questionable penalty was called on Sarnia allowing
Windsor to pull their goalie and have a two man
advantage. This was still not enough to score on the
always stellar goaltending from Cassie Kerrigan. The
buzzer went and both teams sat with 6 points, both
teams were even on head to head, but Sarnia's goal
differential was a plus 4, and Windsor's was a plus
2, giving Sarnia the win and sending them straight
to Provincials. The Sting also sit in first place in
the Midget AA southwestern division with only 3
games left to play |
