A
trio of the Sarnia Legionnaires have been selected
to participate in Ontario's annual Jr. 'B' hockey
Prospects Game.
Defencemen Tanner Ferguson and Steve Farlow and
forward Nathan Mater are expected to take part in
the contest, which will be played Jan. 17 in Guelph.
Mater has been chosen as an alternate, meaning he
will get to suit up if a forward from one of the
other clubs taking part is unable to participate for
some reason. And that's expected to happen, because
one of the forwards selected from another team has
been sidelined with a shoulder separation.
The
game, which is heavily scouted by American colleges,
pits players mostly from the Greater Ontario Junior
Hockey League's Western Conference against athletes
from the loop's Midwest and Golden Horseshoe
conferences. And it's only for student athletes who
are NCAA eligible.
Farlow, an 18-year-old Sarnia native who has made a
name for himself this winter as a reliable
'stay-at-home' rearguard, has one goal and five
assists in 18 games.
Ferguson, a 17-year-old Watford native who is a
draft pick of the OHL's Owen Sound Attack, has one
goal and four assists in 13 games.
Mater, who is also from Watford, has nine goals and
eight assists so far this campaign. The 16-year-old
has been drafted by the Sarnia Sting.
Bob
Williamson, general manager of the Legionnaires,
said the local players are well deserving of their
selections. “General managers in our league get
involved in the selections,” he said.
