Though Alvinston is two games ahead of Mooretown,
they managed to stay neck and neck with the Flags in
points, as they defeated the Dresden Jr. Kings 7-4
on Friday.
Alvinston
started the scoring, as Kyle Brothers made it 1-0
for the Flyers with his 13th of the season. They
would increase the lead to 2-0 after Dan Warner
scored. Dresden would not be able to put one on the
board despite outshooting the Flyers 18-11.
In the
second period, Dresden would tie things up. Josh
Beatty would score two goals, his 13th and 14th of
the season to make it a new game at 2-2. But
Alvinston wasn't done yet, as Brock Hunter scored
just minutes after Beatty to put the Flyers back up.
The Flyers would add two late goals twenty-nine
seconds apart to increase their lead, as Jake
McPhail made it 4-2 on the powerplay and Brother's
got his second of the night to make it 5-2 going
into the third.
Dresden
would cut into the lead to start the third, as James
Shelton made it 5-3. But the Flyers would respond as
Dan Warner put them back up by three. Beatty would
complete the hat-trick for the Kings, getting his
15th of the season on the powerplay, but with one
last goal by Brock Hunter, the Flyers would walk
away with a 7-4 victory.
Brandon Campbell made 55 saves for his 14th win of
the season. Eric Steinman made 32 saves in the loss.
Dresden
missed the chance to move up in points, but still
hold the final playoff spot in the North Division
with a one point lead over Blenheim.
Dresden
next takes on Mooretown on Saturday, January 15th
and again on the 21st. Alvinston then will take on
Mooretown on the 22nd in their next game.
