The Wallaceburg Lakers played a home and home with
the Essex 73's on Tuesday and Wednesday, and came
away with a win at home, but a loss on the road.
On Tuesday
the action was in Essex, where the 73's scored four
goals in the first period for a 6-1 victory. Dan
Bacon got it started for the 73's, and fifty-six
seconds later, Adam Dunmore made it 2-0 on the
powerplay. Essex would score two more times on the
powerplay in the period, was Wes Tan and Jordan
Brohman made it 4-0 after one, outshooting the
Lakers 19-8 in the period.
In the
second, Wallaceburg got on the board with Wayd
Pitfield scoring on the powerplay to make it 4-1.
But that would be all the Lakers could score, as
Essex would add one more in the period by Marco
Maggio, and a goal by Sean Ducharme on the powerplay
in the third to make it 6-1.
In total,
Essex had 12 chances on the powerplay and scored 4
times. Reid Rankin stopped 29 of 35 shots in the
loss.
The action
then shifted to Wallaceburg for the second game of
the home and home. Wallaceburg would get more
offence at home, delighting fans with a 7-3 win.
Ron
Pollock would start the scoring at the 5:28 mark of
the first period. Wallaceburg would then take
advantage of the powerplay, scoring two powerplay
goals a minute and three seconds apart, as Wayd
Pitfield and Norm Leger made it 3-0 after the first
period.
In the
second, Leger would add his second of the game
forty-six seconds into the period. Essex would
respond under a minute later, as Jordan Brohman made
it 4-1, but Leger would complete the hat-trick,
scoring under a minute from the last goal. It only
took Leger three minutes and thirty seconds to score
his hat-trick across two periods. Tyson Isaac would
add the final goal of the period to give the Lakers
a 6-1 lead after two.
Issac
would get his second of the game early in the third
to make it 7-1. Essex would score two quick goals
thirty-seven seconds apart, but that is as close as
they would get, as the Lakers go on to the 7-3
victory.
Matt
Berglund picked up the victory making 22 of 25 saves
on the night.
The Lakers
will next take on Mooretown on Wednesday, January
19th.
