The Sarnia Major Atom Sting picked up a win and a
loss over the past weekend.
The Sting
travelled to Brantford on Friday night and pulled
out a 4 – 2 win over the Brantford 99ers. The Sting
would score the games first goal in the first period
by Jake Vince (Matthew Torti, Tristan Haagsma). In
the 2nd period the Sting would find
themselves in some penalty trouble and would
surrender a couple of of power play goals to
Brantford, but would also score a short handed goal
by Austin Coutts (Jack Smith) and the game would be
tied at 2 heading into the 3rd period.
The Sting would take over the game in the 3rd
period with Jake Vince (Austin Coutts, Spencer
Preece) and Justin Houle (Jack Smith, Matthew Torti)
scoring for Sarnia. The Sting would be forced to
kill off a couple late penalties. Max Musico played
a solid game in the net for the win.
On Sunday
at Germain Arena the Sting would find themselves on
the losing end of a 5 – 4 game with the London
Bandits. The Bandits started strong in this game
and carried a 2 – 0 lead into the 2nd
period. London would take a 3 – 0 lead before Brett
Allardyce (Justin Houle) would get Sarnia on the
scoreboard. The Bandits continued to pressure
Sarnia and would extend their lead to 4 – 1 before
the Sting would cut the lead to 4 – 2 on a goal by
Justin Houle (Lucas Ross). The Bandits would
respond with another goal to take a late 5 – 2
lead. The Sting would fight to the end with a short
handed goal by Matthew Torti (Curtis Marks, Tristan
Haagsma) and another late goal by Curtis Marks (Jake
Vince) and were able to get James Dunn pulled out of
the net to apply some last minute pressure.
Unfortunately, Sarnia would run out of time and lose
by a final score of 5 – 4.
