sarniasports.com January 12th, 2011

The Sarnia Major Atom Sting picked up a win and a loss over the past weekend.

The Sting travelled to Brantford on Friday night and pulled out a 4 – 2 win over the Brantford 99ers.  The Sting would score the games first goal in the first period by Jake Vince (Matthew Torti, Tristan Haagsma).  In the 2nd period the Sting would find themselves in some penalty trouble and would surrender a couple of of power play goals to Brantford, but would also score a short handed goal by Austin Coutts (Jack Smith) and the game would be tied at 2 heading into the 3rd period.  The Sting would take over the game in the 3rd period with Jake Vince (Austin Coutts, Spencer Preece) and Justin Houle (Jack Smith, Matthew Torti) scoring for Sarnia.  The Sting would be forced to kill off a couple late penalties.  Max Musico played a solid game in the net for the win.

On Sunday at Germain Arena the Sting would find themselves on the losing end of a 5 – 4 game with the London Bandits.  The Bandits started strong in this game and carried a 2 – 0 lead into the 2nd period.  London would take a 3 – 0 lead before Brett Allardyce (Justin Houle) would get Sarnia on the scoreboard.  The Bandits continued to pressure Sarnia and would extend their lead to 4 – 1 before the Sting would cut the lead to 4 – 2 on a goal by Justin Houle (Lucas Ross).  The Bandits would respond with another goal to take a late 5 – 2 lead.  The Sting would fight to the end with a short handed goal by Matthew Torti (Curtis Marks, Tristan Haagsma) and another late goal by Curtis Marks (Jake Vince) and were able to get James Dunn pulled out of the net to apply some last minute pressure.  Unfortunately, Sarnia would run out of time and lose by a final score of 5 – 4.
