Sarnia earns gold medal

Sarnia's Jr. Lady Sting have this past weekend won their 4th Tournament of the hockey season. Sarnia started this streak by first winning the Oshawa Lady Generals Tournament and then following it up with the 2nd win at the Kitchener Lady Ranger's tournament. The 3rd Tournament win came at the Whitby Wolves Tournament of Heroes with Sarnia defeating the 2nd home team Wolves by a score of 2-1.

Sarnia did not start off too well in this tournament when they suffered only their 2nd loss of the season to the Cornwall Typhoons surrendering the winner with 8 seconds left in the game and 2 players short to lose 7-6. With goals fore and against counting Sarnia roared back with a 11-0 win over Willowdale. Sarnia continued its winning ways in Game 3 versus Guelph with a 4-0 win.

Because of the goal for and against Sarnia went to the quarter finals against the Ottawa Ice and secured a spot in the semi finals with a 3-0 win. The semi final opponent was Whitby's Major team which saw a great game with Sarnia winning 2-0. Sarnia's win in the Final versus Whitby's Minor Bantam team was a well played game for both teams.

The Guelph Thunder Tournament was the site for Sarnia's fourth attempt to collect gold again. The Lady Sting started off quickly with a 7-0 win over the Barrie Sharks. Scoring for Sarnia where Emily Regan, Sidney Weiss, Riley Wilhelm, Makenna Harrison, Kassie Roache and Jenelle Labadie [2]. Assist went to Leslie Brandon, Courtney Sinclair, Jenna Rops, McKayla Eves, Amy Rawlings [2] , Roache [2] and Labadie.

Sarnia then moved onto the Home Town Thunder whom Sarnia shut out 5-0.Leading the scorers were Weiss [2],Labadie, Eves and Brandon with assists to Beatrice Dufour [2], Weiss, Rawlings and Labadie.

Game 3 versus Stoney Creek was a hard fought affair with Sarnia winning 2-0 on goals by Eves and Brandon , with helpers from Dufour, Labadie and Brandon. Semi-final action saw Sarnia defeat the Clearview Ice Cats by a score of 4-1. Leslie Brandon lead the Lady Sting with 2 goals while Weiss and Eves added singles. Assists on the goals went to Naomi Parsons [2], Weiss [2], Dufour and Rawlings.

The Final game opponent proved to be a rematch with Stoney Creek whom Sarnia did not take lightly. The game did not disappoint and it was not until well into the 2nd period before Sarnia took a 3-0 before Stoney Creek on a scramble scored to cut the lead. The third period was end to end with Stoney Creek scoring off a give and go to draw within 1 , but this was a close as it got with Sarnia scoring twice more to secure the win at 5-1 and the 4th tournament Gold Medal. Sarnia,s goal scoring came Labadie[4] and Roache with assist from Eves {2], Rawlings, Roache and Labadie. Sarnia netminder Karley Ferguson played outstanding through out the tournament making a number of key saves.
