The
Sarnia Legionnaires have acquired a new goaltender.
General
manager Bob Williamson announced Monday the Greater
Ontario Junior Hockey League club has obtained Sean
Parker from the Lambton Shores Predators.
Williamson did not say what Sarnia sent to Lambton
Shores in return but added it did not involve
any players on the current Legionnaires roster.
Parker, a 17-year-old Forest native, has three years
of junior elgibility left.
Head coach Dan Rose said Parker will challenge Kyle
Washer for the team's No. 1 net job. The team's
other goalie, Mike Reed, "is the odd man out."
Williamson said the Legionnaires would try to find
another place for Reed to play.
Rose said it made no sense to keep Reed as a backup
because he's 20 years old. Until recently, Washer
and Reed had carried the load about equally.
Reed will be too old to play junior hockey next
winter. Washer, meanwhile, could be lost to NCAA
ranks next season.
Parker is a fairly big goalie, standing 6'2 and
weighing 174 pounds. He has appeared in 52 Preds
games over the past year-and-a-half. During that
time he's picked up eight of that last place team's
10 victories.
"He's a young goalie who needs a change of scenery,”
Williamson said. “I think this is best for his
career. He's another Lambton County boy and our team
is a place for local kids to play.”
Parker is a former winner of the Jaylen Day award as
top goalie in Lambton 'AAA.'
Parker is also a former winner of the top junior
athlete award at North Lambton Secondary School and
a draft pick of the Sarnia Sting of the OHL. |
