The
Petrolia Squires picked up a 3-1 victory over the
Monkton Wildcats on Saturday night.
Petrolia
got things started very late in the period, as
Carson Simpson scored with thirty-two seconds left
in the first period to give the Squires a 1-0 lead.
No one could beat either goal, as Monkton put 14
shots on net, while Petrolia put on 8.
In the
second period, Petrolia would increase their lead,
as JJ Martin got his 13th of the year on the
powerplay. Again, neither team could score after the
goal, and the period ended with a 2-0 Petrolia lead.
Monkton
would finally cut into the lead on the powerplay as
Matt May put in his 9th of the year to make it a one
goal game. But Petrolia would secure the victory by
adding in another goal as Dan Veenema added his 10th
of the year for a 3-1 lead, which would end up being
the final.
The
Squires had great success from the line of JJ
Martin, Carson Simpson and Dan Veenema, as each
played had a goal and two assist on all three of the
Squire goals. Steve Bryce made 47 saves on 48 shots
for the Squires, sporting a save percentage of
.979%.
With the
victory, Petrolia moves to 18-4-0 on the season and
are one point behind Tavistock for first place in
the South Division. Their next game is on January
19th against Lucan. |
