The Point Edward Novice Blackhawks started the New
Year with a convincing 9-0 win over Strathroy Blue.
Jaxon
Lucas paved the way for the home team, setting up
Shaun McDermott with a pass across the slot with
3:13 left in the first period. The team had been
working on that exact play for the last 2 practices!
It was great to see the boys put it to work in this
game. Jimmy Simpson was able to put the Hawks up
2-0 with 54 seconds left in the first on a great
clearing pass from Cameron Lacroix.
In the
opening seconds of the second period, the crowd
leapt to their feet with a standing ovation for
Jared Henry, who scored his first goal (assisted by
Owen Shearon). Ethan Periera scored midway through
the second (assisted by Jimmy Simpson). Ryder
Nienhuis capped off the second period with a goal in
the final minute (assisted by Shaun McDermott).
Point
Edward continued to dominate in the third period
with 4 more goals: Owen Shearon (assisted by Jared
Henry), Shaun McDermott (assisted by Jaxon Lucas),
Jaxon Lucas (assisted by Shaun McDermott and Ryder
Nienhuis) and Jimmy Simpson (assisted by Ethan
Periera).
The
defensemen kept the puck away from the net, helping
Luke Crombeen to record his 7th shutout
of the season. Crombeen continues to drop his GAA ,
which is now an impressive 1.31.
Point
Edward continues to dominate at both ends of the
ice, improving their record to 14-1-1. They remain
in first place in the Novice West Division of the
Lambton Middlesex League with 4 games remaining in
the season. |
