sarniasports.com January 9th, 2011

The Point Edward Novice Blackhawks started the New Year with a convincing 9-0 win over Strathroy Blue.

Jaxon Lucas paved the way for the home team, setting up Shaun McDermott with a pass across the slot with 3:13 left in the first period. The team had been working on that exact play for the last 2 practices! It was great to see the boys put it to work in this game.  Jimmy Simpson was able to put the Hawks up 2-0 with 54 seconds left in the first on a great clearing pass from Cameron Lacroix.

In the opening seconds of the second period, the crowd leapt to their feet with a standing ovation for Jared Henry, who scored his first goal (assisted by Owen Shearon). Ethan Periera scored midway through the second (assisted by Jimmy Simpson).  Ryder Nienhuis capped off the second period with a goal in the final minute (assisted by Shaun McDermott).

Point Edward continued to dominate in the third period with 4 more goals: Owen Shearon (assisted by Jared Henry), Shaun McDermott (assisted by Jaxon Lucas), Jaxon Lucas (assisted by Shaun McDermott and Ryder Nienhuis) and Jimmy Simpson (assisted by Ethan Periera).

The defensemen kept the puck away from the net, helping Luke Crombeen to record his 7th shutout of the season. Crombeen continues to drop his GAA , which is now an impressive 1.31.

Point Edward continues to dominate at both ends of the ice, improving their record to 14-1-1. They remain in first place in the Novice West Division of the Lambton Middlesex League with 4 games remaining in the season.
