Toronto,
ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced
the top OHL Performers of the Month for
December, 2010.
OHL Player of the Month – Tyler Toffoli, Ottawa
67’s
Tyler Toffoli of
the Ottawa 67’s led the OHL with 22 points in 10
games scoring a league-high 10 goals along with
12 assists and an impressive plus-minus rating
of plus-12. He recorded points in all 10 67’s’
games in December including eight multi-point
performances. He led the 67’s’ to seven wins
and was named a star in four contests including
a first star performance when he scored a
career-high five goals on December 29 as part of
a 9-0 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.
Toffoli, an
18-year-old from Scarborough, ON, is playing in
his third OHL season with the 67’s. Selected in
the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by
the Los Angeles Kings, Toffoli currently leads
the OHL in scoring with 69 points in 39 games
and continues to build the longest point-streak
in the league this season which presently stands
at 21 games.

Rookie of the Month – Nick Ebert, Windsor
Spitfires
Nick Ebert becomes
the second straight member of the Windsor
Spitfires to claim this award following Eric
Locke who won in November. Ebert scored four
goals and 10 assists for 14 points in nine games
to lead all OHL defencemen and tie for the
rookie-lead in December scoring. He became the
first rookie and defenceman to be named the OHL
Player of the Week following three straight
three-point games including a first star
performance on December 9 when he scored two
goals and an assist in a 4-3 win over the Sault
Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
Ebert, a
16-year-old from Livingston, New Jersey, is
eligible for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and is
currently tied for seventh in league scoring
amongst defencemen and ranks 11th in
overall rookie scoring with 27 points in 35
games.
OHL Defenceman of the Month – Ryan Murphy,
Kitchener Rangers
Ryan Murphy of the
Kitchener Rangers earns this monthly award for
the second time this season after scoring 12
points in nine December games with four goals
and eight assists. He led all defencemen with a
plus-minus rating of plus-12 which was tied for
second-best in the league. He scored two
game-winning goals including one as part of a
two-point game as second star of a 2-1 win over
the Plymouth Whalers on December 30 to lift the
Rangers to their fifth win of the month.
Murphy, a
17-year-old from Aurora, ON, currently leads all
defencemen in scoring with 51 points in 35 games
in his second OHL season with the Rangers.
Eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Murphy
will compete with Team Cherry at the 2011 Home
Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game January
18-19 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON.
OHL Goaltender of the Month – Petr Mrazek,
Ottawa 67’s
Petr Mrazek earned
a 5-0-1-1 record between the pipes for the
Ottawa 67’s in December posting a
goals-against-average of 1.86 and save
percentage of .947. He recorded his first
shutout of the season December 29 when he made
34 saves as third star of a 9-0 win over the
Kingston Frontenacs. He produced two first star
performances including a 38-save effort December
3 in a 4-1 win over the Belleville Bulls, and
when he matched a career-high with 48 saves
despite a 3-2 overtime loss to the Peterborough
Petes on December 17.
Mrazek, an
18-year-old from Vitkovice, Czech Republic, is
playing in his second season with the 67’s. He
was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the
fifth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and
currently leads the OHL with 20 wins and has the
second-best save percentage at .924.
