Tie-breaker needed for ladies semi-finals
sarniasports.com January 8th, 2011

In the final draws of the round robin play, the men's side of the compeititon has finished up with the finals picture crystal clear. But on the ladies side, a tie-breaker will be needed to see who moves on.

In a battle of the 2nd and 3rd place teams, each with a 4-2 record, Jasmin Thurston's rink defeated Shannon Harrington's rink 6-4, guaranteeing them a spot in the semi-finals. Thurston's rink fell behind with the hammer, but took two in the 4th end for the lead. Harrington who stole one in the third, who get her point back to tie the game in the 5th, and steal another point to take the lead in the 6th. But Thurston's rink came back with another two point end in the 7th and stole one in the 8th for a two point lead. Harrington's rink could only get one back in the 9th and without the hammer, would fall 6-4.

With the loss they would have to see what Stephanie Van Huyse's rink would do, as they took on Jamie Sincalir. Unfortunately for the Harrington rink, SInclair's rink could not provide the upset, as Van Huyse's rink won 7-4, stealing two in the 8th end, and one in the 9th for the victory.

With those draws played, Clancy Grandy's rink, who also defeated Nicole McNiven's rink 7-2 in their final draw match, will get a bye to the finals with a 6-1 record. Jasmine Thurston's rink will now wait on the winner of a tie-breaker between Harrington and Van Huyse. The last time these two teams played each other, it was Van Huyse's rink who come out on top with an impressive 9-3 victory in 7 ends.

On the men's side, Matthew Camm's rink remained perfect in round robin play, as they will move straight to the finals. They defeated Richard Krell's rink 6-2, stealing three in the 3rd end to help end the match early. Krell's team falls to 5-2, but already had a semi-final spot locked up.

They will take on Michawl Bryson's rink, who defeated Derreck Veitch's rink 7-2 in the final draw. Both Bryson and Krell have 5-2 records heading into the semi-finals match. The last time these two rinks faced off it was Richard Krell's rink coming out on top with a 6-3 victory.

Semi-finals will be played Saturday, with the finals being played Sunday.
