The
Petrolia Squires exploded in the third period for an
8-6 victory, scoring five goals in the final period
for the win over Milverton.
Petrolia
opened the scoring just twenty-one seconds into the
game as Jason Polera got the Squires only goal of
the period. Milverton would respond minutes later,
as Colin Eby tied the game up at one. The Drives
would take the lead when Dan Rhame scored on the
powerplay to make it 2-1 after the first period.
Milverton
would increase their lead to three goals when Gary
Werth scored to make it 3-1, and Brent Freeman
scored to make it 4-1. But the Squires were not out
of it, as they would cut the lead to two when Kyle
Gould made it 4-2. But the Drives would restore
their three goal lead when Rhame made it 5-2. Carson
Simpson wold make it 5-3 after he scored late on the
powerplay to end the second period.
The third
period would be controlled by the Squires. Chris
McPhail made it a 5-4 game with his early goal, and
Jeremiah Goodacre tied the game when he scored two
minutes later. The Squires would continue the
momentum as Gould would get his second of the game
three minutes later to take the lead, and Scott Hull
would put the Squires up by two with his goal three
minutes after the last on the powerplay. McPhail
would get his second of the game, as the Squires
score five in the period to take a 8-5 lead.
Milverton would score one late goal, as Rhame got
his hat-trick, but it was too late, as the Squires
skate to the 8-6 victory.
