The
Alvinston Flyers needed a victory to help push them
further ahead of Mooretown in the North Division
race for second, but the Flyers fell to the Wheatley
Sharks 3-2.
Wheatley
got the game started as Shawn Quigley scored just
1:59 into the first period, giving the Sharks a 1-0.
That would be the only goal of the period as
Wheatley put 15 more shots on net, and Alvinston put
on 10, but were not able to solve either goalie.
In the
second, both teams again shot 16 and 10 shots on
net, but this time Alvinston was able to score on
one of their 10 shots, late in the period, as Chris
Edwards tied it up at one heading into the third.
In the
third, Wheatley would take the lead and then some,
as Quigley would score his second and third of the
night three minutes apart to give Wheatley the 3-1
lead. Alvinston would respond late in the period as
Joe Archer scored a powerplay goal. But with only
seven seconds remaining, there was no extra time to
tie things up and the Sharks went on the victory.
Brandon
Campbell made 39 stops on 42 shots for the Flyers.
Alvinston is now three games ahead of Mooretown, but
only two points ahead in the standings. They next
take on Belle River on Sunday, January 9th.
