Lakers need shootout to snap home losing streak
sarniasports.com january 6th, 2011

The Wallaceburg Lakers snapped their two game home losing streak with a 5-4 shootout win over the Dresden Jr. Kings.

Dresden had the early lead, as Jim Rouse made it 1-0 with his 10th goal of the season. Wallaceburg would respond as Garrett Heiser tied it at one with his 2nd of the season. Three minutes later, Wallaceburh took the lead when Joe Jacobs put in is 1st of the season to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

In the second both teams had their chances but could not solve the goalies. The Lakers had 16 shots in the period, but Brent Paxton stood strong stopping them all. Josh Beatty would tie the game on the powerplay for Dresden, sending the game in the third tied at two.

Dresden would take their second lead of the game early when Dylan Mertz scored 2:10 into the third. The Lakers would respond quickly as Rob Pollock tied it back up at three. The Lakers would then take their second lead of the game when Nash Lozon scored a powerplay goal to make it 4-3. But the Kings only took thirty-six seconds to respond and tie the game at four. Neither team could get the go ahead goal and overtime solved nothing so a shootout was needed.

Mertz and Tyson Isaac each couldn't score on their first shots, but each team got goals in the second round as Jesse Ferguson and Tyler Lewis made it 1-1. The next five shooters would be turned away, until Rob Pollock would score for the Lakers to give them the victory.

Wallaceburg has already clinched the first place spot in the North Division. Dresden moves one point ahead of Blenheim for the final spot in the playoffs.
