The
Northern Vikings won both their senior and junior
girls volleyball games Wednesday in LSSAA high
school action against the LCCVI Lancers.
In the
junior game, the Vikings took all three sets,
keeping the Lancers below under 14 points. The
Vikings won 25-12, 25-14, 25-13, and Kelsey Crawford
and Mackenzie Colbran were named players of the
match. Carlyn McNally was given the same honour for
the Lancers in the loss. Northern remains undefeated
at 6-0 and hold top spot in the junior girls
division. LCCVI still is looking for their first
win, as they are 0-6 on the season.
In senior
action, the Vikings pulled the upset on the first
place Lancers, winning 2-1. Northern won their two
sets 25-18 and 25-22, while the Lancers won their
set 25-15. Julie McQueen was named player of the
match for the Vikings, while Kim Sanders was the
player of the match for the Lancers. Despite the
loss, LCCVI is still in first in the senior division
with a 5-2 record. Northern also improves to 5-2.
The
Lancers and Vikings were not finished as they also
played in Boys hockey. The Lancers took an early two
goal lead, as Conor McKinnon and Steven Helps made
it 2-0. But Northern would come back quickly,
scoring two goals in just twenty-five seconds.
Elliott Pecora and Ben Sokol had the quick goals for
the Vikings. In the secong, the Vikings would take
the lead, as Reid Wilcox made it 3-2. Minutes later
Northern would take a two goal lead as Brandon Burr
made it 4-2. But like the period before, the game
would be tied and quickly. Davis Triest scored to
make it a one goal game and just over a minute later
Cullen Hunter tied it at four. In the third it was
all LCCVI, as they scored four unanswered goals.
Travis Rops had two, while Conner Annett and Jace
Dupuis each had one in the 8-4 final.
LCCVI now
stands with a 4-0-1 record, where as Northern has
fallen to 1-1-3.
In girls
hockey action, St. Patrick's took on St.
Christopher's at the RBC Centre. The Cyclones
defeated the Irish 8-2, with Janelle Labadie
getting two goals and three assist in the victory.
Kassie Roache added two goals as well for the
Cyclones, and Amy Rawlings, Celine Norman, Allie
Regan and Jorrie Kirby each had single goals. For
the Irish, Emily Ager and Torey VanderVaart had
goals.
And
finally in senior boys basketball, St. Christopher's
improved to 6-0 with their 47-15 win over the LCCVI
Lancer. Martin Popiel had 10 points for the
Cyclones, while Rodney Reese, Zac Lippiatt and
Jeremy Harris each had 6. Curtis Tremblay and Derek
Blonsky had 4 points each for the Lancers. LCCVI is
0-5 on the season.
