The Sarnia Sting Minor Atom AA team journeyed down
the 402 to London MedWay arena on Sunday to take on
the London Knights AA Gold Team. The Sting have been
snake – bitten all season with this team, and wanted
to pull off a major upset just prior to the Playoffs
starting.
The teams took the ice, and the sting were battling
hard, but it looked like old times, with London
jumping off to a quick 2-0 lead by the middle of the
first period.
Our Coaching team took the boys aside, and put
together a new game plan that saw life injected into
the team. 25 seconds later, Spencer Baillie jammed a
goal in off the Knights goalie with Assists going to
Cole Goossens and Gavin McGregor.
The Knights kept pushing, but our Defence was solid,
smart playmaking and puck clearing by Nolan Rannie,
Aidan Clark and Steele Harris kept the Knights from
getting any shots off in our end for a long period
of time. Logan Tardiff and Jason Caley kept digging,
along with Andrew Czyczurko, and finally a soft shot
from Logan Tardiff went past the London Goalie to
tie the game.
Corey Smith played a great “Two Way” game, carrying
the puck when free, but keeping in mind to play his
role as a defensive specialist, along with Brendan
Bouterse and Lucas Coats, the Defence wanted to win
this one badly, and did a great job of limiting the
Knights Chances.
Colby Ramsdale was Spectacular, and was easily a top
candidate for first star through the entire game.
Nathan Armstrong and his entire line were on fire.
Nathan Abbott did a great job getting the puck free,
and Nathan Armstrong went on to score his first goal
of the Game!
This gave Sarnia its first lead ever against this
team, and the entire bench was fired up. The Knights
team was dejected, and decided to change their
goalie to give them some new life.
Cole Goossens and Corey Smith combined for some
great 2-1 action, but were not able to seal the
deal, however a quick line change, and Nathan
Armstrong was back on the ice, flying down the wing,
and fired his second goal of the game to give Sarnia
a 4-2 lead going into the final period.
The Action was fast and furious for the entire
period, Kaleb Zetinoglu had some great chances, but
was denied on the doorstep, and with the London team
getting frustrated the puck bounced Free and
Armstrong once again was off down the ice, and
Popped in a rocket to the top corner to seal the
score at 5.2.
The Sting Travel to Waterloo on Saturday for our
Regular Season Finale!!
