Major Atom Sting clinch 1st place

The Sarnia Major Atom Sting clinched 1st place in their division with a win and a tie this past weekend.

On Saturday, the Sting travelled to London to take on the London Bandits. The Sting would score all 3 of their goals on the power play in battling to a 3 – 3 tie with the Bandits. Sarnia would score a goal in the first period by Jake Vince (Devin Devooght, Austin Coutts) but the Bandits would tie the game in the 2nd period and take the lead in the 3rd period. The Sting would twice battle back to tie the score late in the 3rd period. Brett Allardyce (Spencer Preece) would tie the score at 2 before the Bandits would score a power play goal to take a 3 – 2 lead. Sarnia would be awarded a power play opportunity late and Austin Coutts (Tristan Haagsma) would score with 1:30 left on the clock to tie the game. Max Musico played solid in the net for the Sting.

On Sunday, the Sting would win by a score of 8 – 3 against the Brantford 99ers to clinch 1st place in their division. The Sting would jump out to a 3 – 0 lead, dominating play in the first period. Brantford would battle back and get as close as 4 – 3 before Sarnia would score the last 4 goals to win by a final score of 8 – 3. James Dunn would be the winning goalie in this game. Jake Vince would lead the offensive attack in this game scoring 3 goals, Austin Coutts and Devin Devooght would both pick up 1 goal and 2 assists, Tristan Haagsma and Matthew Torti would both pick up 1 goal and 1 assist, Jordan Hurtubise would get 2 assists, Curtis Marks would score 1 goal and Justin Houle would chip in with 1 assist. The Sting have 1 regular season game left before the playoffs begin.
