sarniasports.com January 28th, 2011

The Petrolia Squires couldn't extend their winning streak to three games as they fall to the Monkton Wildcats 5-2 on Friday night.

Petrolia got the scoring started as Craid LaFramboise scored his 3rd of the year shorthanded to put the Squires up 1-0. But before the period was out, Monkton would respond as Tim Vosper squared the game heading into the second.

In the second, Matt May would take control and put the Wildcats up by two as he scored his 12th and 13th of the season, including his second on the powerplay to give the Wildcatds a 3-1 lead. Kyle Verberne and Shayne McClure each had assists on both of May's goals.

In the third, the Wildcats would continue to push their lead as Dan Raycroft scored his 17th to make it 4-1, and Ryan Baetz made it 5-1. Both goals game on the powerplay. Scott Hull would put in the final goal for the Squires as their offence goals quiet in the 5-2 loss.

Monkton outshot Petrolia 34-27, with Steve Bryce making 29 stops of the 34 shots.

Petrolia finished in third place and are awaiting their playoff opponent. Playoffs will start next Friday, February 4th at the Greenwood Rec. Centre.
