Legionnaires drop fourth in a row
dan mccaffery January 27th, 2011

LASALLE – The addition of a flashy new defenceman couldn't save the Sarnia Legionnaires from their fourth straight defeat here Wednesday.

But Brent Sullivan did have a positive impact, scoring a pretty shorthanded goal for the Legion crew, which was dumped 6-1 by the LaSalle Vipers.

Sullivan, who joined the team this week after a three-and-a-half year stint with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL, got his new team's only goal late in the second period.

With the Legionnaires trailing 3-0, speedy rightwinger Jesse Drydak took a pass from rookie Jeff Schroeter and lead a two-on-two charge into the Vipers end.

Drydak dropped the puck back to Sullivan, who wired a hard, low shot into the net on the short side. Needless to say, it was his first of the season.

But that was about the only highlight for Sarnia, which managed just 15 shots on goal.

LaSalle pumped 44 pucks at goalies Kyle Washer and Sean Parker.

The Legionnaires will try to get back into the winning circle tonight when they host the St. Thomas Stars. Game time at the Brock Street Barn is set for 7:10 p.m.

Game notes:

· Owen Rogers and Tanner Ferguson missed the game with injuries.

· Legionnaires Nathan Mater and Jeff Paulley were ejected for fighting.

· LaSalle was 3-for-7 on the powerplay. The Legionnaires failed to score on three opportunities with the extra man.
