The Blenheim Blades got a huge win Sunday
night over Dresden, as the Blades defeated the Jr.
Kings 2-1 and pulled one point behind the Blades for
the final spot in the playoffs.
Blenheim
opened the scoring in the first as Blake Gecse
scored his 2nd of the season shorthanded to give the
Blades a 1-0 lead after one. The Kings had their
chances firing 15 shots on net, but Taylor Speed
turned all 15 aside.
In the
second period, both teams would fire 14 shots on net
but it would Dresden who would find the equalizer as
Tyler Clarke scored his 8th of the year to tie the
game at 1-1 heading into the third.
Blenheim
would come out shooting in the third, firing 18
shots on net and in paid off, as Taylor Phillips
scored his 11th of the season on the powerplay to
give the Blades a 2-1 lead. Blenheim held Dresden to
just 8 shots in the final period and skated away
with the big victory.
Speed made
36 saves on 37 shots in the win, while Eric Steinman
made 39 saves for Dresden on 41 shots in the loss.
Dresden
now holds a one point lead over Blenheim in the
North Division. But the Jr. Kings have also played
37 games sporting a 9-23-5 record compared to
Blenheim's 34 games played and 11-23-0 record.
