The Petrolia Squires won two on the weekend with a
4-3 victory over the Tillsonburg Thunder.
Tillsonburg had the early advantage in the first
period, as Mike Findlay scored his 3rd of the season
to put the Thunder up 1-0. The Squires would respond
as Scott Hull scored his 5th of the season, but the
Thunder would retake the lead as Terry Lammens
scored his 20th to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead after
one.
In the
second, the Squires would tie things up while a man
down, as Dan Veenema scored his 11th while killing a
penalty to get the Squires back into the game. But
the Thunder would respond at the end of the period
as Nick Vergeer scored his 3rd for another
Tillsonburg lead.
In the
final period, the two teams played the first three
quarters of the period with no score, but the
Squires would finally knot the game up as Ryan
Chapman scored unassisted to tie things at 3-3. Just
a minute later, Petrolia would take their first lead
of the game as Mike Gardner scored his 3rd of the
season to put the Squires up 4-3. And that is all
they would need as Justin Day made 30 stops on 33
shots for the victory and the Squires second in two
nights.
