Sting Atom AA peaking at the right time
andrew brethauer January 23rd, 2011

The Sarnia Sting AA Atom team is starting to Peak at the right time, just before the playoffs!

The Team went to Woodstock on January 22, to face off against their division rivals the Woodstock Navy Jets. The Jets took the last meeting in a close match, and Sarnia was ready to redeem themselves.

The Navy Jets started out fast, and within the first 5 minutes, had the Sting in a 1-0 hole. The Sting was ready for the Call to action, and after Coach Drury calmed them down, Nathan Armstrong took a pass from Cole Goossens and Andrew Czycrcko and popped the first goal of the Nite.

The play went end to end for the next 5 minutes, and Colby Ramsdale had to be strong in the net stopping every thing thrown at him!!

Nolan Rannie and Brendan Bouterse played a great game on Defence, assuming their Defensive Role with Aidan Clark also playing a stellar mistake free game on the blue line.

With 3 mintues in the Third Period, Cole Goossens Took a Pass from Spencer Baillie, went around the last defenseman, and fired a bullet in the top shelf to give the Sting the lead.

In the Second period, the Sting kept the pressure on full! Kaleb Zetinouglou had 2-3 great opportunities, and Logan Tardiff applied pressure at both ends. The Sting ended up in the Penalty box, but the Navy Jets also found themselves in the Sin Bin, and with only a few minutes left in the second, Sarnia had a fantastic opportunity with a 5-3.
The Sting banged away at the puck, had a few good opportunities, but were not able to pull the trigger, until the 2:30 minute marker, when Spencer Baillie jammed a goal past the Navy Jet Goalie, Giving the Sting a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the Third period!

In the Third, Jason Caley, and Gavin McGregor came close with some great shots, but the Navy Jet goalie kept the puck from crossing the line.

The Play went end to end for the next 10 minutes, the refs called equal penalties for both teams, and with 1:45 left in the game the sting found themselves in the penalty box, and after a time out was called, the Navy Jet goalie was pulled (leaving behind his goal stick, in front of the net) and with only 38 seconds left, the Navy Jets scored their second of the game.

Coach Drury wisely changed the lines, put out the defensive specialists, who cleared the puck from our zone, and the buzzer went to end the game.

Final score Sarnia Sting 3, Navy Jets 2
The Sting Travel to London to face the Knights on Monday Jan 21 @ 6:45pm
