Lambton Jr. Sting lose third game at Silver Stick in close battle
sarniasports.com January 22nd, 2011

The Lambton Jr. Sting Atom's (AAA) were looking for their first win of the Silver Stick tournament when they took the Barrie Colts in their third and final game. Unfortunately, it wouldn't go their way as the boys lost 2-1 in a close battle.

Josh Bayne got the start for the Sting and made a big stop early in the first as a Colt is left in front of the net all alone. He would make another key stop as Justin Winn came down on a breakaway but Bayne shut the pads and kept the game scoreless. But the Colts continued to press and their efforts finally paid off as Connor deVries spotted Derek Sweeny cross crease for the put in to give the Colts a 1-0 lead through one.

In the second period the Sting were given powerplay chances. On their first opporunity, Barrie kept the puck in the Sting zone with a heavy fore-check, killing seconds off the clock on the penalty. The Sting just couldn't get the puck up the ice and sustain any pressure on the powerplay. On their second chance which happened shortly after their first, Barrie had a breakaway opportunity but Bayne made the stop to keep it a one goal game.

Lambton though they had finally got on the board, but a high stick called the play dead just as the Lambton player put it into an open net. Lambton would change their goalies mid period as Jakob Knowles stepped in between the pipes. He would be tested early as Winn would get a second breakaway chance, but again be denied a goal. Knowles even turned away a 3 on 1 chance the Colts had.

But to many chances would finally catch up to Lambton, as in the third, Noah Minns would be left wide open in front of the net and slip a shot five hole on Knowles to make it 2-0. Lambton would reply quickly as Carson Payne made it a one goal game as he picks up a deflected point shot and puts it by Jacob Ingham to give Lambton a chance.

Lambton would add pressure late in the period, hitting the post and sending shots wide of the net, but they couldn't get the equalizer to go in, and Barrie skated away with a 2-1 win.
