sarniasports.com January 22nd, 2011

The Petrolia Squires were in action Friday night, and took on the Lucan-Ilderton Jets in Lucan, and came away with a 5-3 victory.

Petrolia got on the board early in the first when Breydan Belan scored his 5th of the season to give the Squires an early 1-0 lead. Despite being outshot 12-6, the Squires held the Jets to no goalies in the period as Steve Bryce made all 12 saves.

Jeremiah Goodacre scored his 5th of the season to put the Squires up 2-0 in the second period, and again Bryce held the Jets to no goals on 7 shots. But this period the Squires got 18 shots on net but were still only able to score a single goal in the period.

The game opened up in the third. Petrolia made it 3-0 when Jason Polera added his 24th of the season. Belan added his second of the game to put the Squires up 4-0. The Jets finally got on the board on the powerplay when Scott Mezenberg scored his 9th of the season. Kyle Smith and Chris Golem would score the next two goals for the Jets to get them back into the game at 4-3. But Craig LaFramboise would ice the game with twenty-four seconds left to give the Squires a 5-3 win.

Petrolia's next game is Saturday 22nd against Tillsonberg.
