The
Lambton Jr. Sting Atom AAA opened up their Silver
Stick tournament Friday Morning at Sarnia Arena, but
unfortunately they fell to the
Mississauga Rebels 3-1.
In
the first period, Lambton had troubles clearing the
zone, as the Rebels were on the attack and kept the
puck inside the Sting blue line. At 1:39 into the
first period, Riley Damiani let a wrist shot go from
above the circle, which beat a screened Jakob
Knowles for the first goal of the game, putting the
Rebels up 1-0. Lambton was not able to get many
shots on net, as the Rebels played out the rest of
the period testing Knowles, but not able to put one
passed the keeper.
In
the second period, the Jr. Sting came out with a
little more spring in their step, and kept the puck
inside the Rebels zone. They went on the powerplay
and took advantage, as Joey Forrera jammed in the
puck in the crease to tie the game at 1-1. Lambton
would go on their own penalty kill and have a tough
time clearing the zone, but Knowles was there to
make the saves and keep his team in, even with added
Rebel pressure late in the second.
In the
third period, Lambton starts with a powerplay, but
spend most of the time in their own zone, as
Mississauga kills off the penalty in the Lambton
end. This would be costly, as after the penalty
expires, Lambton cannot clear the
puck
from their zone which results in an odd man rush.
Jack Hughes brings the puck in and back hands it
passed Knowles to put the Rebels up 2-1.
Lambton
was still not able to get any major pressure in the
Rebels end, and with the period coming to an end,
Damiani would go behind the net and send a pass to a
wide open Santino Foti would blasts a shot past
Knowles to put the Rebels up by two.
Lambton
would pull their goalie, but were not able to get it
any closer, as they fall 3-1 in their first
tournament game.
Lambton
will next take on the
Cleveland Barons at 2:00 p.m. at the RBC
Center.
