Sarnia, ON - The Woodstock Wildcats are the 2012
Peewee B Sarnia Girl's Silver Stick champions,
defeating the Ilderton Jets 2-1 in six overtime
periods.
It was a
goalie duel between Alannah Gosnell of Woodstock and
Erin McAdams of Ilderton, as both goalies held
shutouts heading into the third period of hockey.
In the
third, Woodstock would be the first on the board as
Calli McMillan scored in the middle of the period to
make it a 1-0 game.
The Jets
would respond three minutes later as Taryn Kennedy
would tie the game at 1-1. Neither team could find
the go ahead goal and so the game needed overtime.
The game
would go into six overtimes as each team had their
chances but it was turned aside by Gosnell and
McAdams.
In the
sixth overtime it would take 25 seconds for Amy
Smith to beat McAdams, giving the Peewee B
championship to the Woodstock Wildcats.
Woodstock
went undefeated all tournament, picking up round
robin wins over Waterloo 6-2, Troy 8-0, and Lambton
Shores 7-1. They defeated Brampton 2-0 in the
quarter finals and Ayr 2-0 in the semi-finals to
earn their spot in the championship game.
Ilderton
did not allow a goal through the round robin,
defeating Sarnia 6-0, Clearview 5-0 and Ayr 3-0.
They defeated Waterloo 7-1 in the quarter finals and
Brampton 3-0 in the semi-finals.
