Legionnaires lose to first place Rockets
dan mccaffery February 19th, 2011

STRATHROY – The Sarnia Legionnaires lost a frustrating game here Saturday, being dumped 6-1 by the first place Strathroy Rockets.

Coach Dan Rose's Greater Ontario Hockey League squad was only outshot 43-38, but it couldn't finish off around the net.

Captain Tyler Cicchini got Sarnia's only goal when he knocked in a loose puck during a goalmouth scramble late in the first period. Jesse Drydak and Nathan Mater assisted on what was Ciccchini's 18th of the season.

Despite the loss, the Legionnaires finished the campaign at the .500 mark with a record of 24-24-3.

And because the Chatham Maroons lost the night before, Sarnia also clinched seventh place in the nine-team loop.

The Legionnaires will open the playoffs later this week against the second ranked London Nationals. The Maroons, who ended up eighth, will face the first place Rockets.

Shawn Parker took the loss in net, although he made 37 saves.

Winning goalie Marc Nother, who kicked the Strathroy net off its moorings continuously (while receiving only one delay of game penalty) blocked 37 pucks.

Parker appeared to have no trouble keeping the same nets in place.
