The
Northern Vikings junior girls volleyball team
defeated the St. Christopher's Cyclones 3-0 in
straight sets Friday night in the championship match
up of LSSAA volleyball.
The teams
were evenly matched in the first set, holding a tie
for the majority of the set. With the score at
18-18, Mackenzie Colbran would get an ace, and the
Cyclones would hit two balls into the net to give
the Vikings a 21-18 lead. Colbran would hit another
ace still on serve, and Kelsey Crawford would get
two aces to finish the set and take it 25-19.
Colbran ended the first set with four aces.
In the
second set the Cyclones started off with a 2-0 lead,
but Colbran would come back with a big kill to tie
the game at 2-2. But the Cyclones would jump out to
6-3 lead off Viking errors, but with Mackenzie
Shaw's tip over and Cyclone errors, Northern got
back into the game 7-7.
Lilia
Pasqual would get an ace for St. Chris, and Cassisdy
Crowe a kill for the Vikings and the two teams would
be tied again at 9-9. The Vikings would start to
pull away as Shaw hit an ace and Colbran a kill to
put the Vikings up 14-10. Northern would give back
two on long hits, but Melissa Bennett would hit an
ace and then stay on serve for four points to give
the Vikings a 21-13 lead.

Crowe
would get a kill and after two Cyclone miss hits and
a violation, the Vikings would take the second set
25-14.
In the
third set Emily Winsor would start the set with an
ace and take an early 3-1 lead with an ace from
Julia Hagemann. Jessica Taylor would get a kill but
also a hut into the net as the Cyclones held a 6-3
lead. Northern would get a kill from Melissa Bennett
and an ace from Crawford, but the Cyclones would
hold the lead and extend it to four, 9-5.
But back
come the Vikings as Crowe and Colbran each get
kills, while the Cyclones have an issue getting the
ball back over the net. Mackenzie Shaw would step up
for the Vikings and serve five straight points in
the Vikings return to the lead, and Colbran and
Melanie Lumby would provide two kills to give the
Vikings a 14-12 lead.

The
Cyclones would get kills back from Alisson Deery and
Pasqual as they begin to close the gap. Pasqual
would provide another kill and Kylene D'Esterre with
her own kill, and Winsor an ace to tie the game up
at 22-22. The Cyclones would get the first match
point as D'Esterre hits an ace, but the Cyclones
would put it away. They would get another chance off
a block by Pasqual but two miss hits into the net
would give the Vikings their first match point
29-28. And on match point, Hagemann would hit the
ball into the third for the third time in a row for
St. Chris, giving the Vikings a 30-28 final set
victory and the championship 3-0 in sets.
Mackenzie
Colbran was named player of the match for the
Vikings, getting eight kills and five aces. Kylene
D'Esterre was the player of the game for the
