Sarnia Jr.
Sting Minor Atom MD finished the regular season in
first place
Sarnia 1 - North London 2
On Tuesday February 1 the Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor
Atom MD traveled to London to face the North London
Nationals in their last game of the regular season.
The Jr. Sting bench was a lonely place as only 8
skaters and the goalies made the trip. With some
players ill and others choosing not to make the trip
due to weather concerns there was no lack of ice
time available.
Cameron Stevens started in net for the Sting with
Stevie Schaefer taking his shift halfway through the
game. Both Stevie and Cam played an excellent game,
turning away shot after shot. Nathan Oliphant's shot
blocking and the hard work of the rest of the Sarnia
players held the Nationals off the score sheet until
the 4 minute mark of the second period when London
scored on a goal mouth scramble.
Mathew Waun answered for the Jr. Sting just two
minutes later with assists going to Collin Zimmer
and Ian Bailey. The game remained tied until North
London was able to put one by the Sarnia net-minder
with 5 minutes left in the third. The exhausted Jr.
Sting did their best to tie up the game by pulling
the goalie and adding an extra attacker but the
Nationals were able to hang on for the victory.
This was only the third loss for the Jr. Sting in
regular season play. At the end of the regular
season they boast a
16-3-1 record which puts them first overall with 33
points. The Jr. Sting now head into the play-downs
with their first game on Wednesday February 16 in
London vs. the West London Hawks.
