The
Sarnia Major Atom Sting finished off their quarter
final series with Oakridge on Tuesday evening
winning the game by a final score of 5 – 2 and the
series 3 games to 1.
After winning the opening game of the series, the
Sting travelled to London on Saturday and lost by a
final score of 5 – 4. A determined Oakridge team was
the harder working team on this day and were
rewarded for their hard work with the win. The Sting
would actually have a 4 – 2 lead towards the end of
the 2nd period before Oakridge would score the last
3 goals to secure the win. Brett Allardyce would
score 2 goals for Sarnia, with single goals going to
Justin Houle and Austin Coutts. Jake Vince, Devin
Devooght, Jack Smith, Matthew Torti, Lucas Ross and
Spencer Preece would all pick up single assists.
On Sunday, back at Germain Arena the Sting were
faced with trying to reverse the momentum and
confidence that Oakridge seemed to have picked up
from their win in game 2. Oakridge would start
strong and carry the early play, scoring less than 1
minute into the game to take the early lead. The
Sting would settle down and gradually start to take
over the game. Devin Devooght (Jake Vince) would
score a late 1st period goal to tie the game and
Lucas Ross (Spencer Preece, Mac Caley) would score
early in the 2nd to give the Sting the lead. In the
3rd period Dawson Young (Lucas Ross, Curtis Marks)
and Matthew Torti (Jack Smith, Justin Houle) would
score to seal the win. James Dunn was the winning
goalie, making several early key saves to keep his
team in the game.
On Tuesday evening, the Sting would travel back to
London, hoping to wrap up the series and move on to
the next round. Dakota Moore, who moved up from
defence to play forward for this game, would score
an unassisted goal on the first shift of the game to
give the Sting an early 1 – 0 lead. Oakridge would
respond with 2 goals to take the lead. Sarnia would
battle back as Justin Houle (Tristan Haagsma,
Matthew Torti) would tie the game and just before
the end of the 2nd period Jack Smith (Matthew Torti,
Justin Houle) would score to give the Sting the lead
for good. Curtis Marks (Mackenzie Caley, Jordan
Hurtubise) and Jack Smith (Tristan Haagsma) would
score 3rd period goals to give Sarnia the win by a
final score of 5 – 2. Max Musico would play solid in
goal for Sarnia, making some key saves during the
game as the winning goalie.
