In what
could be a playoff preview, the Sarnia Legionnaires
will face off against the London Nationals tonight
at the Brock Street Barn.
Currently, the Nationals are in a tough fight with
Strathroy for first place in the Western Ontario
Hockey Conference.
Sarnia is in eighth place, but it has three games in
hand on the Chatham Maroons, which should give it a
decent chance of climbing into seventh before the
regular schedule ends later this month.
The first place club will play the eighth ranked
squad in the first round, while the second will face
the seventh.
With Sarnia likely to finish seventh or eighth and
London appearing destined for first or second, a
playoff clash is a very real possibility.
In three regular season games with London to date,
the Legionnaires have won two and lost one in
overtime, picking up five of a possible six points.
All three contests have been decided by one goal.
The Legionnaires won 1-0 in September, lost 2-1 in
overtime in October and won 5-4 in a shootout
earlier this month.
Sarnia has an overall record of 19-21-3 while London
is 30-10-2.
The Legionnaires are coming off a 3-2 win over St.
Thomas while the Nationals lost their last outing to
St. Thomas by a 4-3 count.
Coach Dan Rose says he will start Kyle Washer in net
for the Legionnaires.
Three Sarnians will miss the tilt. Owen Rogers and
Tanner Ferguson are injured and Jeff Paulley is
serving the second game of a two-game suspension.
Game time is set for 7:10 p.m.
