The
Wallaceburg Lakers have jumped out to a 2-0 series
lead with a 5-1 victory over the Blenheim Blades
Sunday.
It only
took Wallaceburg 3:12 to get things started as
Brendon Merritt scored to make it 1-0 for the
Lakers. Despite outshooting the Lakers 13-9 in the
period, Blenheim would not find the back of the net
in the first.
In the
second period it was more Lakers, capitalizing on
the powerplay. Tyler Lewis scored 54 seconds into
the period to make it 2-0. Nine minutes later Tyson
Isaac would make it 3-0 on the powerplay as well.
Tyler Billins would get an unassisted goal to make
it 4-0 for the Lakers before Taylor Phillips of the
Blades was able put in the first of the game to make
it 4-1 after the second period.
But in the
third the powerplay would again hurt the Blades as
Shawn Lubbers took advantage scoring the Lakers 5th
goal of the game. Again despite outshooting the
Lakers 14-8, Blenheim could not find the back of the
net to catch up.
Brendon
Merritt and Tyler Lewis each had three points for
the Lakers, while Matt Berglund earned his second
win of the playoffs making 35 saves. Taylor Speed
made 24 saves in the loss.
Wallaceburg went 3 for 5 on the powerplay while the
Blade went 0 for 11. Blenheim also outshot the
Lakers 36-29.
Game three
goes Wednesday in Wallaceburg.
