Colts come back in third to win set and game against Cyclones

In St. Clair Colts dug themselves a hole in the third set, down as much as ten to the visiting St. Christopher's Cyclones, but the ladies battled back and won 2 sets to 1 in LSSAA senior girls volleyball.

 

The first set opened evenly, as both teams traded points back and forth. The Colts would start to pull away on kill balls, as they hit three in a row, coupled with Jordan Tamming's two aces to take a five point lead 11-6. Brittant Lewis would hit two aces for the Colts as well, as did Hillary Kiernan to give the Colts an 8 point lead midway through the first set.

 

St. Christopher's would start to close the gap led by Jen Edwards kills at the net. But the Colts were hitting with precision in the first set, as four balls landed just inside the line to count for scores and take a 6 point lead 21-15. The Cyclones would try and cut the gap as Kendra Perdeaux's powerful serve got the Cyclones to within four, but Riley Williams would provide a kill from the back row, and the Cyclones would hit the ball into the net, giving St. Clair the first set 25-17.

 

St. Clair would jump out to a 3-1 one lead in the second off a Williams kill that caught the corner but the Cyclones would not be out, as Danielle Girard caught the Colts napping with an ace and square the match up at 6-6. They would take a two point lead, but the Colts would get it right back, before giving it back with long shot errors. Perdeaux would provide another ace for the Cyclones as they jump out to a three point lead. The Colts would take back two on Cyclone faults, but St. Chris still held onto the lead.

 

 

Perdeaux and Jenna Prevost would provide the push in the middle the Cyclones would net to get their lead back up to four points, but the Colts would keep coming back, lead by Tamming with a kill of her own to bring them to within one. Tamming would provide a block to tie the game, but Prevost with two big serves would restore the two point lead for the Cyclones. Tamming would get an ace to bring the Colts to within two, but her next hit would go into the net, giving the Cyclones the 25-23 set victory.

 

In the third the Cyclones would take it to the Colts early and open up a big lead. Lead by Prevost with three aces and huge blocks at the net, the Cyclones would open up a ten point lead on St. Clair 13-3. Riley Williams was unsuccessful in the middle of the set hitting kill balls helping to establish the big lead for St. Chris. After a timeout, Williams would come back with two kills in play to help get some points on the board for St. Clair. Hillar Kiernan would provide a block at the net and Williams would get an ace on serve to help bring the Colts back into the match and tie it at 19-19. with a long hit by the Cyclones giving the Colts the lead 20-19.

 

With the set at 20-20, the teams would trade off points as neither team could go ahead more then two for the set win. Tamming would get a kill, but her match point service was long. Back the other way a long hit by the Cyclones gave the Colts a match point but they would return the long hit to even it up at 25-25. Both teams would exchange miss hits as the set pushed to 29-29. Danielle Girard would kill it into the net to give the Colts a 30-29 lead. And to finally end the marathon third set, it would be Jorfan Tamming with the block to give the Colts the come from behind 31-29 third set victory.

 

Both teams will head into playoffs next week.
