The Sarnia
Sting A/AA Minor Peewee’s recently competed in the
Gene Harrington Invitational Hockey Tournament in
New York, coming away with the hardware. The Sting
started out slowly in a penalty filled game and
found themselves on the short end of a 3-1 loss to
the Waterloo Wolves. Isaak Tucker scored the loan
Sting goal and Taylor Iacobelli played a strong game
in net.
Game two saw the Sting get some scoring punch from
the defence and cruised to a 6-0 win over the Vaughn
Rangers. Patrick Kelly was in goal for the shutout.
Scoring for the Sting was Camden Pomerleau with two
goals and singles going to Ben Rutledge, Burke
Rozell, Matt Hunt, and Nick Burgess.
The Sting’s next opponent was a rough team, the
Binghamton Senators, and Sarnia had to keep
themselves out of the penalty box. Taylor Iacobelli
played a great game in net recording a 3-0 shutout.
The forecheck was working as Jameson Hart led the
way with two goals and an assist. Cameron Rannie
scored the other big goal with Brayden Groulx
assisting.
Sarnia found themselves in the final game facing
their first round foe, the Waterloo Wolves. It was a
great game from start to finish as both teams had
excellent scoring opportunities. Matt Praill opened
the scoring when he went to the net hard and put
home a rebound. Sarnia found themselves in penalty
trouble again, and while being two men short,
Waterloo capitalized, tying the game at one. The
Sting began putting the pressure on The Wolves and
with just five minutes remaining, it looked like
Brayden Groulx gave the Sting the lead after jumping
on a rebound, as the puck was on the goal line. No
goal, the referee waved it off . Less than a minute
later, Groulx would get his revenge as Hart and
Rannie worked the puck down low and Groulx made no
mistake on a nice rap around, giving the sting the
victory . Patrick Kelly was great in net coming up
with the saves when needed.
