Sarnia, On
– Sarnia Sting President Larry Ciccarelli announced
today that Dave MacQueen has been relieved of his
duties as General Manager and Head Coach of the
Sarnia Sting Hockey Club.
Trevor Letowski will assume the role of Interim Head
Coach and the General Manager duties will be now
absorbed internally by Sting Management.
The team has also issued the following statement:
“We thank Dave MacQueen for his tenure with the
Sarnia Sting Hockey club. However we feel that over
the past month while other teams have been taking
steps forward we have been moving in the opposite
direction. We have assembled a young, talented, deep
group of players and we feel it is time to move in a
new direction.”
All other Sting coaches and the entire scouting
staff will remain in place.
MacQueen was hired as the Sting coach in 2006 and in
that time he had a 141-151-18 record as head coach.
In his time as head coach the Stings best finish was
3rd place in 2007-08, where the Sting got to the
semi-finals of the playoffs before beating defeated
4-0 by the Kitchener Rangers.
Sarnia
missed the playoffs last season and currently sit in
9th place in the Western Conference, 11 points
behind 8th place Guelph Storm. The Sting have lost
their last six, and only have 3 wins in their last
15 games. |
